Marian Hour of Prayer

The Knights of Columbus has sponsored Marian Hour of Prayer programs since 1979. As part of this program the Order distributes pilgrim icons depicting the Blessed Virgin Mary under her various titles. The icon travels on a year-long journey from council to council in each of the Order’s jurisdictions throughout the world. These Marian icons serve as the focal point for prayer services held in council homes, churches or other locations.

The first program, in 1979, honoured Mary under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and she has been honored by her Knights under her titles of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Our Lady of Czestochowa, Our Lady of Pochaiv, Our Lady of the Assumption, Our Lady of the Rosary and Our Lady of Charity since then.

The 2013-2014 program which began on August 7th at the 131st Supreme Convention in San Antonio, Texas, features an image of Mary as the Immaculate Conception. This title, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, was used previously, in preparation for the 1982 Centennial of the Order. The program continues for the 2014-2015 season. Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception

The image used as a centerpiece for this year’s program is a copy of the original painting housed in the Cathedral Basilica Notre-Dame de Quebec in Canada. The church and the Archdiocese of Quebec are celebrating their 350th anniversary in 2014, the anniversary of the creation of the first parish in Canada. This parish was founded by Bishop Francois Laval under the patronage of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception nearly two hundred years before the Dogma was officially declared by the Church. In so doing, Bishop Laval honoured the vow of the Jesuits who had preceded him to New France, made on 8th December 1635, to build a church to honour God under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception.

The painting is the work of Sister Marie de l’Eucharistie, a Sister of Charity of Québec.

Brothers, we will be requesting parishioners to stay back after every weekend mass to spend a little time with Our Lady. A Knight will then lead those who stay back in a 10-minute devotion that Fr. Au will select from the books the prayer books that came with the icon. Just like the Rosaries at mass, I will need volunteers for each mass…starting with the Saturday Mass on Nov 8th and on to the three Sunday masses of the month of November 2014.

Schedule:
Saturday Evening Mass Nov 8th: Brother Jet Valmonte
Sunday 8.30 am Mass:
Sunday 10.00 am Mass: Brother Samuel Hu
Sunday Noon Mass: Brother Rommel Nocos
