Winner – Best Youth Programme

Our council won the award for Best Youth Programme. Although a simple programme to get children to create posters to show the “Keep Christ in Christmas” theme, the hard work of Brother Ernie Alcala, programme director, and his team of brothers made sure that it was successful. We had over 60 applicants from the Catholic Schools and parishes around us.

Kudos to brother Ernie and the rest of you brothers who participated in this programme. Look out for more next year!

YOUTH AWARD-2014

New Knights April 2015

We exemplified two new brothers last night! Brothers Hener Abad and Patrick Grant joined our merry band last night at St Josephs. As is the practice at St. Joseph’s we first paid homage and asked for our Lady’s blessing by requesting that the strangers pray the rosary before the exemplification…we want them in the right frame of mind to learn the lesson of Charity. They were led by Worthy Deputy GK Rommel who took the place of Worthy Financial Secretary Sam, who was away on vacation.

They were then led downstairs and went through the process of Exemplification via DVD. Thanks to Worthy DD brother Herb Yang, who took time off his busy schedule to help us with this as it was the first time we had done an exemplification via DVD. Thanks too to the other brothers of the Council who showed up to follow these new brothers through their first ever exemplification. Your support was definitely welcomed. Do note that the photo does not show brother Rome who attended as well as took the minutes.

Everything went smoothly and we ended the evening with beer and pop. The new brothers will get right into it with the upcoming Parish Breakfast this Sunday the 19th.

Welcome Brothers!

More 2nd degree Knights!

Brothers Eduardo, Patrick, Ralph and Adrian took their 2nd degrees on Sunday 15th March. What’s outstanding is that these men were all out with GK Mark, DGK Rommel and FS Sam since 7.30 am that morning preparing for the Parish Feastday Breakfast! PGK Richard was part of the degree team as well.

Full Knighthood!

Brothers Joseph and Ernie were exemplified into Full Knighthood on February 5th. Brothers Sam, Rommel, John and Mark were on hand to celebrate with them.

Vivat Jesus brothers!

2nd Degree Knights – onward to full Knighthood!

Last night, we had five brothers move from their 1st degree standing to 2nd degree status. We welcome them and thank them for their participation in this important milestone in their development into full Knighthood, which is in the 3rd degree. Please join me in congratulating brothers, Antonello, Joseph, Rome, John and Ernie in attaining their 2nd degrees!

I would also like to thank brothers Rommel, John, Sam, Rolly and Zeus for joining me to make our support members part of the large crowd of Knights who gathered to welcome the 16 Knights from various councils who attended the ceremony. Brothers, if you have not taken your 2nd yet and wish to do so, please let me know so that I can schedule you for the next one.

And now, brothers of the 2nd degree, onward to full Knighthood!

Remembrance Day 2014

Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and Reservist Corporal Nathan Cirillo were ordinary Canadians just like you and I. One was just walking by a street and the other doing his civic duty and standing guard over a Memorial. And as you well know, both were killed for no reason other than they were Canadian soldiers.

Every Remembrance Day, Knights of Columbus all over Canada lay wreaths in remembrance of the Fallen Soldier. Your council 9846, has been laying a wreath every year and participating quietly with an Honour Guard at the Cenotaph in Port Moody. It is part of your duty as Knights and Catholic gentlemen, to pray for, and honour those who laid their lives down, that we may live in the peaceful and secure land we call home.

THANK YOU to brothers David, Rome, Patricio and Edmund as well as Deputy GK brother Rommel who laid the wreath and brother Sir Knight Zeus who served as Honour Guard with GK and Sir Knight Mark.

Fr. Au’s Birthday Fundraiser!

What a great turnout! The Knights were out in force to support our pastor’s efforts to raise funds for the parish. From setting up tables and chairs to organizing the bar and drinks, to setting up last minute tables and chairs  for those who had none…the Knights were there for Fr. Au.

Special thanks to the brothers who came out the next day (Remembrance Day) to help move the flowers and chairs back to St. Joseph’s after the parade. Brothers, Rome, Edmund, David and Rommel thanks for the extra help the next day!

Here are the pictures that brother Sam took of the evening.

Welcome Brothers Adrian, Angelo and Rohan!

Last night at Queen of All Saints parish centre, we had three new brothers join us! Please welcome brothers Adrian, Angela and Rohan in our council! A total of 8 of use showed up in support of these new brothers, to welcome them and help induct them into Knighthood. Thanks to brothers Sam, John, Zeus, Ernie, Rome, PGK Dennis and of course proud Dad, Rommel and of course GK Mark for the strong show of support for these brothers as they take their first step towards full knighthood.

We should be arranging a 2nd degree soon to move these and all others in our council who are still 1st degrees on to the next stage to full Knighthood within our order. Further details to come. Meanwhile here are some pictures of the event.

Parish Picnic 2014

What a bright and beautiful day it was! As before the work started on Saturday itself, with brothers Rommel, John and Patricio, together with GK Mark loading up the trailer. After all the gear was loaded arrangements were made to meet with the other brothers at 7.00 am the next day to unload the trailer. Early setup was done by the few of us who showed up early…it was a really BRIGHT morning. We picked a spot next to the waterfront as the city had decided to up the prices on the usual site to unaffordable levels. The new site worked out better instead…we had more room to move and everyone seemed happier. Thanks to MacDonalds for supplying the ice and brother Edmund for making the ice run and breakfast run as well!

All in a very successful event that went off without a hitch, thanks to the Knights and CWL!

Canada Day Flag Raising

During our Rectory Garden work day, brother Rommel noticed that the flag in the rectory was in a sorry faded state. It turns out Fr. Au was thinking the very same thing. When brother Rommel contacted Fr. Au about this, we got the go-ahead immediately to get a new flag and raise it for Canada Day! Just a few hours ago, we did just that. We started with mass at 7.00 pm…a fitting way to celebrate Canada Day, by thanking God for his many blessings and for bringing us to this great country.

After homily, the Knights, brothers Rommel, Rome, Dennis and Edmund, preceded by an Honour Guard comprising brother Zeus as well as brother Mark,  presented the new flag to Fr. Au in a solemn procession, whereupon Fr. Au blessed the flag. After mass, we marched in procession to the Flag pole, lowered the flag and raised the new one to a rousing rendition of O’Canada by all the parishioners and Knights.

There were some pictures taken during the ceremony, but I don’t have them yet. Below is the picture from after the ceremony.
